Hi Clay,

Speaking of Valencia, ever try the poetry section of the Goodwill there on like Valencia & 18th? Seems like the dumping ground of choice for Missionistas clearing out their bookshelves--I've found some great experimental stuff among the Harlequins for under $2. Though Ostashevsky at $1.85 is hard to beat.

rodney,

i wish i'd thought to stop in, but i'd just been mucking around with an old, old friend who's visiting from massachusetts. who incidentally got to play abandoned planet's piano, which he's missing (he's a musician) being so many days away on holiday.

i'd never heard of the noughtbook chaps. they're from 98. it seems i'm very lucky indeed to have found them.

i had another busman's holiday moment the other night, when my friend and i were walking to the bart on shattuck at about 10:30, and i decided to stop in at the chain half price books, which is just a few blocks north of my store. it got my goat a little, if that's how you spell this goat, because among their typical unfiltered crap they had, for example, copies of action books' aase berg collection, david larsen's the thorn and stephanie young's bay poetics. all clearly unread, obviously review copies. i wished of course i had them at my store; i would doubtless be able to sell them better, more quickly and more happily, and would have paid the reviewer at least twice as much, etc.
