Robert Pinsky's arrogant assertion that poetry by dead poets (and presumably himself) can civilize immigrants, minorities, and the white working class makes me hope that he sticks around until the day I can twist the knife in him. Him, with his big square head...
I don't know how I posted that last comment under "trainwreck," but whatever.
I had the misfortune of Pinsky showing me videos amidst a crowd of sorrowful suckers in Wheeler auditorium, including one featuring a construction worker reading Walt Whitman in front of (you guessed it) a bulldozer. I detest that mongoloid.
I try to be selective in the people I despise, but it doesn't always come off that way. As for you, Clay, I'm sure you are the Banes of many an existence, which pleases me, for some reason.
I was one of those sorrowful suckers in Wheeler auditorium...but I don't remember him specifically asserting that poetry civilizes people...did I miss something?
I didn't think his head was particularly square but he did have the overly poety voice, which was a little annoying.
