ACTION BOOKS SANDY FLORIAN THE TREE OF NO

18 December 2008

the OPEN FACE SANDWICH is a journal of uncommon prose. This volume presents the latest from Deb Olin Unferth. It provides vital hilarity from the most cynical second-grader we’ve ever known. It offers cutting new work from 80-year-old former member of The Living Theater, and of the Paul Bowles expat circle, Mel Clay. Within it, award-winning poet Ariana Reines dips prose in tears and cummy vomit. It reproduces novel excerpts stolen from reclusive expatriate Hortense Caruthers. And it serves you several very lovely literary debuts (Uppsala, Amsterdam, New York, Atlanta.) All this notwithstanding delicious full-color fold-outs of animals brutally murdered by automobiles and photographed. * Hortense Coruthers * Deb Olin Unferth * Cindy May Murphy * Mary Sorrenson * Janet Jarvis * Thomas Birdson * Ariana Reines * Reneé E. D’Aoust * Alan Bajandas * Sarah Karp * Sarah Norek * Tanya Jarvik * Meshakai Wolf * Michel Duchampbuffet * Nathan Hill * Joe Hall * Agnes Miranda Elisabeth Gerner * Hanne Lippard * Benjamin Michael Solomon * Karyna McGlynn * Erin Wigger * Mel Clay

ISSUES presents OAKLAND SIGNAGE by OLIVIA ALLUMS

please join us on friday, december 5th from 5-9 pm for the opening of OAKLAND SIGNAGE by OLIVIA ALLUMS. this show will feature 30 small paintings of iconic oakland signs, all researched and painted by olivia over the course of the past year. the postcard above features images of 6 of the signs that will be featured in the show.

we really mean it when we say we are ecstatic about this show! olivia has been a friend of the store since the day we posted our 'ISSUES coming soon....' sign in the window and we have followed her work ever since. when we heard last year that she had painted a series of san francisco signs, we asked her to consider doing a set of oakland signs to be featured in our store. after a year of working on this project, olivia has produced a beautiful collection of paintings which chronicle the unique neighborhoods that make up our home. we can't wait to share this work with you.

come by on friday, december 5th to see the full set of paintings. the show will run through december 31st, however, we will be allowing customers to take home signs after december 19th, just in case they are needed for holiday gifts!

hope to see you soon & happy holidays!!!!

xoxo noella & joe
